Mid Wales Stages Rally 2015 - SS1

After much deliberation, I decided it was time to put a few road miles under the wheels and head to deepest, darkest Wales for what are considered some of the most scenic stages in the UK. With a comprehensive historic entry list, the Mid Wales Stages rivals the Roger Albert Clark in terms of the variety and depth of the line up. With the aid of a rally buddy, we set off from Nottinghamshire around 6am in glorious sunshine, swiftly eating up the motorway miles. Once over the border, we stopped for a revitalizing espresso and made our way to the stage.
The first thing to strike me was the elevation. These were some serious climbs, more akin to a rally stage in the French Alps, rather than a British forest. The stages were very wide too, a world apart from the claustrophobic forests of Kielder. This gave the drivers a lot more room for error, so we saw the cars being driven very enthusiastically, with an array of different lines.
Walking up from the stage start, to the top of the climb was a fair trek, but we were rewarded with fantastic views, and it was a good opportunity to try out a few different compositions.

  1. Great to re-live the stages through your lens Matti. Espresso was a good wake up call!
